My Personal Research Journey

With a new year comes a new class, and in this case, a new research topic! My broad topic idea for this research simulation is to see how early childhood education benefits children overall. After thinking about this topic, and what more I would like to learn about this, I broke my topic down into three subtopics. They are:
1. To see how early childhood education benefits children's verbal skills
2. The influence that early childhood education has on children's empathy, manners, and overall social skills
3. The influence of technology in the preschool classroom - the pros and the cons

My task now, is to choose one of the subtopics to focus on for the remainder of this course. Each of these topics interests me, so this is the hardest part for me so far. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on these subtopics. Which one do you think will benefit families and the ECE field the most and why?

As always, I appreciate your thoughts and look forward to us all helping each other out these next 8 weeks!

  1. Hi Cassie
Great subtopics. I like all of your subtopics, however number 2 is a hot topic. Empathy, manners and social skills are so important because they all impact social emotional development with peers, teaching staff and family members. Early childhood education provides children with learning experiences such as circle time, outside play, housekeeping, sensory play and differentiated instruction that may not be offered at a home daycare. Empathy relates to everything as children learn to take turns, they learn to care for others and share their stories. Good luck with everything and I look forward to chatting with you soon.

  2. Hello Cassie!
While all of these topics are important, I would go with the empathy and social skills area. That might be something you could observe and research right away. I wonder if the technology topic might require a longer time period to study the effects. Also, verbal skills may take a longer time to observe. Obviously, I am not an expert, but just think that the empathy and social skills area is very important and relevant. With social/emotional growth and development being such an important part of human development, you may get more positive results to benefit young children. Families and the future depend on it!
Good luck and can't wait to see how it all goes!
